25 Days of Christmas Day 17

Better Homes and Gardens December 1961

I was four months old when this was out.
I purchased this magazine a few years ago at the Southworks Antiques mall in Cambridge ON. I wanted to browse through a magazine in my birth year to see what the magazine world was like when I entered this world.

Lots of good recipes.
An article about how the different faiths celebrate Christmas.
Advertising for a game as a gift. I recognize most of these!
An advertisement for a refrigerator. This is the new line for 1962!
Notice how this is a large family. Five children. When is the last time you saw this size of family in advertising?
A beautiful arrangement of Christmas goodies with lots of red!

Brownies...Mmmm!

This is a Christmas play.
Some of the characters.
An article on taking family pictures at Christmas.
Advertisement for books.
I love the vintage drawings!
A couple of cartoons at the back of the magazine.
In this cartoon Santa gets a gift. He doesn't look too happy!
A full page ad with a message from President John F. Kennedy about the importance of magazines.
There is 104 pages in this magazine.
There is a lot that is so much the same and yet a lot that is so much different.
That was 52 years ago.
Hope you enjoyed browsing.

Blessings, Diane

25 Days of Christmas-Cozy Christmas Reading

Welcome to Day 2 of 25 Days of Christmas!

One of the nice things about the Christmas holidays is curling up and relaxing with some inspirational reading.
Recently, I was at a vintage shop (pictures to come later) and someone had donated books and magazines with the proceeds to go to purchasing equipment for our local hospital.
All the books were $1.00 and magazines were 50 cents.
Chicken Soup for the Soul is perfect when you just have a few minutes to unwind and read a heartwarming story. (Sorry for the glare)
A book by Thomas Kinkade. I'm looking forward to getting into this one.
I always like to make my reading time relaxing and that includes having a scented candle burning, a nice cup of java, and some quiet Christmas music.
A nice book to keep on your coffee table for quick readings.

I love looking through the older Country magazines. Lots of great decorating and delicious recipes!
Can't have too many cookie recipes! Need a cookie while you're reading your book!
This book I purchased at a Christian bookstore. It has poetry and small articles and lots of vintage pictures.

Touch the World
(Louisa Godissart McQuillen)

It's Christmas
Winter's calling, snow is falling,
all the land lies robed in white.

It's Christmas,
Enter, Jesus, warm my spirit,
touch the world through me tonight!
But the greatest book of all is the Bible, the Word of God that gives us life and gives us hope. And hope was given to us in the form of a newborn baby. Jesus, the greatest gift all all!!

Blessings, Diane

Life:Beautiful magazine

I just discovered this magazine.
I like to scour the magazine rack once in awhile and I have never seen this magazine before.
I'm not sure how I missed it, but I'm glad I found it.
It's a wonderful Christian magazine that includes all topics, decorating, recipes, and everything else us women love to read about.
This was the spring issue. Another good thing is the price...$4.95. It's been around since 2007.  Maybe it recently came to Canada???

I apologize for the glare on these photos. I don't have a fancy camera.

There's an article by Joyce Meyer, Dave Ramsey and other encouraging life stories. I found this magazine at Chapter's and thought I would share this in case you're looking for a nice magazine to relax with.
Blessings, Diane
