Unexpected Ironstone Find...With A Dutch Twist

A few weeks ago, on my way home from visiting my folks,
I stopped in at an antique mall
to stretch my legs (wink, wink).

This mall has three floors and they are full.
I couldn't spend a lot of time looking since I still had another 2 hours to drive before getting home.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular.
I never do.
That's the best part.
Usually when I am looking for something, I can't find it.
So...
when I'm not looking for anything I tend to find something.
That happens when shopping for clothes as well.
Wonder why that is??
Less pressure??

I was on the second floor at the very back and middle aisle,
quickly scanning a hutch full of stuff.
I'm sure you can imagine it.
As my eyes are working their way down to the middle of the hutch,
I notice some insulators with electrical cords coming from them.
I think, "This is different", so I walk over to pick one up.
Someone had the bright idea to put little lights in them.

Not sure what an insulator is?

It's these two glass pieces you see here.
They were used as insulators for hydro lines.
They don't use them anymore.

As I lifted it up to inspect it further I noticed the plate that they were sitting on.

Be still my little Dutch heart!
I lifted up the plate and rested the insulators on the next plate sitting there.
It was beautiful!!
It was black and white and had windmills in it.
AND
it was only $16.00!!
That was one item I did not have to think twice about.

It has a lovely scalloped designed edge.

A lovely windmill scene in the centre of the plate.
You can see the worn patina.

I spent some time trying to get it displayed to my satisfaction.
I thought it would be nice to have a few other Dutch items around it.

This Bible belonged to my father.
Even though he's still with us, I thought it suited perfectly.

I love these little primitive candles
You can place them anywhere for effect.
This little one takes one AA battery.
You can loosen it to stop the light from working when you don't need it.

I think it all works well together.

The two pictures on the wall are Dutch as well,
and were thrifty finds.

I found this picture this past weekend while on a road trip with a friend.
The frame caught my attention first.

I love the old style clothes she is wearing.
There's even a cat in the picture!
It looks like a watercolour painting.

When I looked at the back of the frame,
it had a sticker on it from the place of purchase,
as well as the name of the artist.

I didn't have to think twice about this treasure either.

This picture I've had for awhile,
but it too was found at an antique store.

"A Flower Girl in Holland"
I like the sepia colouring to the picture.

I'm currently stripping a vintage wall unit I purchased a few months ago.
It's definitely been learning curve for me.
So this corner will look a little different soon.
Hopefully!

I hope you enjoyed my little Dutch treasures.
I was born here, but my parents were born in the Netherlands,
and emigrated to Canada when they were adults.

Have you found any sweet treasures lately?

Blessings to you,

Ironstone Find at the Thrift Store

This past Wednesday, I had to drive to a town 45 minutes away after work to do patient training.
I always try to utilize that drive to do some thrift shopping.
I was hoping to do this visit on my day off so I could visit more shops,
but it didn't work out.
That left me with one thrift store that closes later.
I found an old ironstone gravy boat and a set of five white ironstone plates.
Isn't it cute?
I love the old patina.
According to the signature, this was made in the late 1800's to very early 1900's.
The handle is unique; it looks like a daisy.
I have lots of white ironstone dishes.
Different designs and names.
I was debating for awhile if I should even buy them.
But I love the soft waves on the outside of the plate.
I just couldn't help myself.
I also bought two pillowcases.
This one has a beautiful lace border in an off white colour.
I always look in that section because there are so many things you can do with them.
(That's for another post)
This pillowcase has an eyelet trim.
I have always loved eyelet.
So pretty.
All in all, I had a very productive evening!
This gravy boat I found while visiting my folks a few months ago.
I couldn't believe I saw the gravy boat and the dish.
You must know that feeling you get when you think you've found something wonderful.
You lift it up and look at the back.
And sure enough, there are those words you were hoping to see.
That's how I felt this past Wednesday when I saw the brown ironstone.
I wasn't planning on starting a gravy boat collection.
I really don't have the space.
But how do you pass it up?
Only if you can get rid of some of your other stuff.
That's what I did today.
I dropped lots of stuff off at the mission store.
Then I parked the car and walked in and shopped.
This is what I bought today.
Two lampshades and two plate holders.
Brand new too!
I thought maybe they belonged together.
Not sure if this is where they are staying.
But it works for now.
They add a nice touch to this corner of the room.
Have you found any treasures recently?

Blessings,

HoneyChurch Lane Shop Tour

I was visiting my folks two weeks ago,
and made a stop to visit a new shop that opened in the quaint village of Elora.
. I had seen articles and was really wanting to visit.
She also sells Miss Mustard Seed paint and I have been wanting
to try that after making and using chalk paint.
It was a beautiful day to shop.

I love the old stone, beams, and a wood stove!
This shop used to be a blacksmith shop.
She has a variety of vintage and antique items.
Ironstone, glassware, and anything vintage.
Sarah also sells a line of environmental paint beside Miss Mustard Seed, call Fusion.
You can read more about it here.
I will try that another time.
And upstairs, there is so much eye candy!
Re-painted furniture, which most of us love!
Soup tureens and lots of mirrors.
Love this rocky shelf...and the chandeliers (their gorgeous!)
This is what I came home with.
I bought a colour called Grainsack,
bonding agent, and white wax.
I love the colour it changes to when the wax is applied.
I so enjoyed my visit at Honeychurch Lane.
Sarah is a lovely proprietor.
I went to grade school with her oldest brother, so we had a nice
chat down memory lane at Honeychurch Lane.

Beautiful spring scene.
This is the Elora Mill.
It is currently under a long construction.
I just love coming here.

Hope you enjoyed the visit.

Blessings,
