Talk on Tuesday: When God Ran

Phillips, Craig, and Dean
 singing, "When God Ran"

Have you ever pictured Jesus running?
Running to you?
We often hear about running into the arms of Jesus,
but
do you know that God runs towards you?

The story of the Prodigal Son is the perfect example of that.
When the younger son left to enjoy and live life,
it broke his father's heart.
When the son had reached the end of his money and fame,
he decided to go back home,
hoping that his father would take him back.

And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
Luke 15:20

His father was looking every day to see if his son, whom he loved so much,
was on his way home.

If you've been running from God,
hiding in fear,
anxious,
disappointed,
lost,
then...
take those steps towards the Father,
and He will come running to you.

This is the front of the postcard I made for the ladies at WLC.

The back of the postcard contains the lyrics to the song, "When God Ran"
It's a beautiful song.
I heard it years ago when after I bought an album by Benny Hester
I remember picking up the needle and replaying the song over and over.

I shared another story about Martha, Mary, and Lazarus.
These three were siblings and good friends of Jesus.
Lazarus is not feeling too well, in fact he's not good at all.
The sisters placed an urgent call to Jesus.

Jesus decides to stay where He was two days longer.
When He does come, and Martha hears He's on His way,

Now Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming,
went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.
John 11:20
One translation states, "she ran to him".
I kinda think that's probably what happened.
I know I would be running.

But Jesus had a good reason why He stayed longer.
He was about to display His biggest miracle yet, right before His own death.
Jesus had risen people from the dead before.
But Lazarus was dead for four days.
I love the KJV of what Martha says when Jesus tells them to move the stone,

Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
John 11:20

This was to prepare his dear friends for what was about to happen.
To give them hope.
That He would conquer death.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
John 11:25

When you have a need,
and you run to Jesus,
stand back and see the salvation of your God.
He wants you to trust Him.
He loves that.

When you repent,
and turn towards God,
He comes running to you.
He opens His arms
and holds you close.
